Program Summary

This presentation will provide an in depth explanation of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for young children aged 2-7 with clinically significant externalizing behavior problems. PCIT works dyadically with the child and their caregiver(s). PCIT is a two phase treatment involving the Child Directed Interaction (CDI) (phase 1) and the Parent Directed Interaction (PDI) (phase 2).

This presentation will explain the theoretical foundations of PCIT, how to identify when PCIT may be needed, the assessment process during PCIT, and the two treatment phases (CDI and PDI). Key features of PCIT such as live coaching, ongoing assessment and coding of parent-child interactions will be discussed.
